Z aluminum extrusions will require custom dies. The production of the dies will take about 30 days; the price will range from 700 to 8000 euros depending on the complexity and dimensions of the profiles.
How we Make Extruded Aluminum Z Channels
The extrusion method allows us to acquire finished products with high strength rates. The extrusion technology not only gives aluminum high strength but also allows these profiles to look excellent. Aluminum profiles are most often produced by direct extrusion. The raw material for aluminum z section extrusions is called a billet, it is cylindrical in shape.
Before loading into the press, each billet is heated to a temperature of 375 °C to 500 °C, depending on the alloy of which the billet is made. Next, the matrix is cleaned and prepared, and it is heated. The hydraulic piston presses the ram into the rear end of the workpiece. It squeezes out aluminum through the hole of the die, which already is in the Z shape of the profile. It is the shape of the die hole and its design that determine the shape of the channels. The extrusion process continues until 10-15% of the press residue remains in the container. The remainder is sent to waste for smelting. The full length of the profile at the exit from the press can be 40 meters or more.
Anodized Aluminum Z Channels
Anodized aluminum Z channels are widely used in a wide variety of industries. In particular, the benefits of this robust and durable finish are evident in parts used in aeronautical and automotive products.
Architectural, building, and advertising projects often incorporate these reinforced Z shapes into their exterior designs. For example, various aluminum profiles used for fastening building materials or installing advertising structures, after anodizing, withstand any weather conditions much better.
So, from earth-orbiting satellites that are protected from the impact of debris to the smallest gadgets and decorative elements in our homes, the possibilities for anodized Z profiles are endless.
The main advantage of anodized Z channels is low maintenance requirements. Under normal conditions, when the material is cleaned naturally in the rain and is not subject to a harsh industrial environment, one yearly cleaning is sufficient. In more extreme conditions, it is recommended to clean the aluminum surface twice a year.
Care is essential when cleaning anodized aluminum. It is recommended to use pH-neutral detergents as they do not affect the anodized layer.
