HOW DOES ALUMINUM EXTRUSION WORK?

There are several key steps in the aluminum extrusion process. First, the shape of the forming die is chosen. It can be either a standard one or a one designed particularly for this order. After the shape is picked and ready, it is time to preheat a cylindrical aluminum billet. The temperature depends on the type of extrusion, and it can be cold, warm, or hot. The average temperature for the extrusion process is about 480ºC.

Later on, it is time to apply pressure to the billet using a ram to push it through the die. As a result, you get an elongated piece of aluminum shaped as the die opening. It is then cooled down at room temperature and moved to the stretcher to be further straightened and hardened.

Next comes the stage of cutting the long product into pieces of the required length. The profiles are then put through an aging oven. This is where the extruded aluminum gets even stronger. At the end, it is time to add finishing touches, such as paint the profiles or work on the surface’s texture and brightness.
